• The Anti Ragging Committee, a statutory body norm for the prevention/action against sexual harassment of women. It looks into the cases of ragging or any other student centered conflicts in the College. It must be mentioned that due to the strong discipline maintained in the College, incidents of ragging of students have not taken place at any level.   • With regard to the Supreme Court Judgment and guidelines issued in 1997 to provide for the effective enforcement of the basic human right of gender equality and guarantee against sexual harassment and abuse, more particularly against sexual harassment at work places, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued circulars since 1998, to all the universities, advising them to establish a permanent cell and a committee and to develop guidelines to combat sexual harassment, violence against women and ragging at the universities and colleges. It has further advised the universities to be proactive by developing a conducive atmosphere on the campus, where the status of woman is respected and they are treated with. Keeping the above guidelines in view GGSCW has constituted a Committee Against Sexual Harassment .

  • The College has a Students' Grievance Redressal Cell. (In order to ensure transparency , in admissions and with paramount objective of preventing unfair practices and to provide a mechanism to innocent students for redressal of thier grievances , In exercise of the power conferred under clause 1 of section 23 of the All India Council for Technical education, Act 1987.)The functions of the cell are to look into the complaints lodged by any student, and judge its merit. The Grievance Redressal cell is also empowered to look into matters of harassment.

    Anyone with a genuine grievance may approach the department members in person, or in consultation with the officer in-charge Students' Grievance Redressal Cell.   • To provide career as well as psychological counselling to students, the counselling cell of the college plays a significant role. During admissions, the counselling cell offers valuable career guidance to students to help them choose the right subject combinations in conjunction with their aptitude and attitude. The cell also provides psychological counselling to students, addressing any behavioral problems, relationship issues or other psycho-social problems/issues that they might have in their tumultuous college life by Dr. Savneet. Special sessions are held with the students residing in hostels, to facilitate their adjustment and to cater to their special emotional needs. PDP’s (Personality Development Programmes) are frequently held by the Cell to hone the soft skills of the students. To orient students towards facing competitive examinations, the Cell holds regular sessions, thus helping them to tackle stress/pressure situations.

  • Guru Gobind Singh College for Women has an active Placement Cell that coordinates not only the hiring activities of the students but organizes various developmental activities that help in personality grooming and also gives them platforms to express themselves and enhance their soft skills.     During the academic session 2012-13, The Placement Cell holds workshops, seminars, lectures for the students to enhance their skills and aptitudes, fine tune presentation techniques and network and the industry leaders to provide them with the opportunity to find a suitable placement. Col. Mann, Placement Officer, Doaba Group of Colleges visited the college and an interactive session is conducted where he advises the students regarding career guidance and how to appear in interviews. Dishtek provide introductory session on carrier orientation and various future options like master degree information and additional course works for IT and Commerce students. Technical session was organized by IBM regarding various job opportunities in IT sector. An introductory session was conducted on Personality Development and Corporate World grooming by Reliance Company. Several numbers of students attended the event and written test for job placement is going to be conducted on 15th Feb. 2013 and workshops and preparatory classes for the test are going on at college campus after classes.   • The Gurmat Vichar Sabha of our college under the venerated guidance of Mrs. Satvinder Kaur, Mrs. Sukhmeen Kaur and Dr. Surinder Kaur endeavours to imbibe ethical, moral and spiritual values in the minds of students and help them to overcome the ills of materialism,selfishness, insensitivity. Being an educational institution, it becomes a matter of paramount importance for a college to provide necessary moral training that could create complete human beings for the society and Gurmat Vichar Sabha of the college serves this responsibility with great devotion. This academic year started with the inaugural function held in the month of July 2013. Shabad Kirtan was recited by the staff members and the students to seek the blessings of the “Guru” to help them throughout the session.

    “Sehaj Path” of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji was also started on this day which the staff and the students collectively carried on throughout the year. Our students actively participated in the Nagar Kirtan taken out to mark the celebrations of the Prakash Utsav of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
    The birth anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji Sahib was celebrated with great joy and religious fervor in the college as 'College Sthapana Divas.' To mark the Platinum Jubilee of the Sikh Educational Society, four city institutions under the aegis of the Sikh Educational Society namely Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sri. Guru Gobind Singh College of Pharmacy and Sri. Guru Gobind Singh Collegiate Public School together organized the KirtanDarbar to make this occasion memorable. World renowned Ragi Bhai Baldeep Singh ji. recited Gurbani Kirtan and Singh Sahib Bhai Tarlochan Singh ji, Jathedar Takhat Sri Keshgarh Sahib, Anandpur Sahib enlightened the sangat with the finer aspects of Guru Gobind Singhji's life, the patron saint of the college. Guru Ka Langer was prepared by the students and served to the sangat on a large scale.

  • The Music (Instrumental) Department under the accomplished guidance of Lucky Malhotra and Satinder Singh, seeks to provide curricular and co-curricular experiences to students that promote the study and performance of instrumental music. There are challenging performing opportunities for students of the department who enjoy the experience of playingdifferent instruments such as Synthesizer, Banjo, Santoor, Xylophone , Tabla Tarang, Mandolin and Guitar. By performing in various ensembles, they understand the use of arts in their historical, social and cultural contexts.

  • The Fine Arts Department under the expert guidance of Mrs.Harpreet Kaur(Head), ably assisted by Sonu, has made commendable contribution towards cultural as well as academic activities. Apart from Zonal and Inter Zonal Youth Festivals, students participated in various Inter College and other competitions and won numerous prizes.

    On september 22, 2012, an educational trip was organized for the students to Virasat-E-Khalsa, Museum, a repository of the rich heritage of Khalsa showcasing the history and culture of the Sikhs, at Anandpur Sahib.

    Aditi Garg of BA III got the 1st Prize in the Photography competition Our students also participated in the Inter Youth Festival at SD College, Hoshiarpur held from October 26 to 29, 2012. Divya Gupta (BA-II) was awarded 1st Prize in Poster making competition while Priyanka Devi (BA-I) and Hema (BA-III) won a IInd Prize in collage making competition held at SGGS College, Sector 26, Chandigarh on February 9, 2013. Hema also exhibited her artistic skill and vivid imagination at an event organized by the Panjab University Campus Student Council "VIMARSH-2013", and clinched Illrd Prize in Rangoli competition. In the collage making competition held during Panjab University Rose Festival-2013, our talented twosome, Divya Gupta and Hema, bagged the IInd Prize. They also participated in Mehandi competition and walked away with two prizes, while Divya Gupta won the 1st Prize, Hema bagged the lind Prize. An Exhibition was held on March 5, 2013 which was inaugurated by Dr. S.S. Johal, Chancellor Central University of Punjab, Bathinda.

  • Being one of the oldest departments of the college, the subject is very popular among students. The faculty members, Anita Waraich (Head) and Jasneet Malhi, make relentless efforts in rearing the young minds to enhance their proficiency for both professional and personal life. A number of activities/Workshops are held for the students to develop women power at the home front and in their career sphere. The students of the department visited Organic Food Festival organized by Kheti Virasat Mission on August 18, 2012 at Punjab Kala Bhawan, Sector-16, Chandigarh.Akshata of B.Com I won a Consolation Prize in Rangoli in the Inter College Competition organized by Chandigarh Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology, Sector 42, Chandigarh, on the eve of World Tourism Day. Students also participated in the Panjab University Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival held on October 17, 2012. Anchal of BA I won Consolation Prize in Rangoli competition. Our students attended Integrated Health Education lectures organized by Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh, on January23, 2013. Students also participated in the Green Fest, organized by Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26, Chandigarh. Gagandeep Kaur of B.Com III won a IIIrd Prize in Mehendi competition.
  • The Literary Society, functioning under the guidance of Dr Aradhana, Mrs.Sukhmeen Kaur and Dr Haneet Kaur encourages the students to develop a love for language and literature. This year our student Preeti Shukla (M.Com-II). bagged the 1st prize in the prestigious KK Grover Goodwill Declamation Contest organized by the Department of Hindi, Panjab University. Chandigarh on February 20, 2013. Students also participated in debate, creative writing, elocution and poetry recitation at the Panjab University Zonal Youth Festival organized by Govt Home Science College, Chandigarh. Rupinder Kaur of B. Com-1 participated in Inter College Declamation Contest held by Sri Sathya SaiSeva Organization , Chandigarh on September 22, 2012 and was awarded a medal along with the certificate. Apart from this, students regularly participate in various literary activities organized at college and University level from time to time Students of M.A. English attended a one day Seminar on'Charles Dickens at 200’ to mark the 200th birth anniversary of Charles Dickens, at Post Graduate Govt. College, Sector-11, Chandigarh on November 9,2012.
  • The Youth Welfare Society under the able guidance of Dean, Youth Welfare, Dr. Jaswinder Kaur and the committee comprising Mrs.Suparna Randhawa, Dr. Harneet Kaur, Dr. Savneet Kaur and Ms.Ramandeep Kaur have been assiduously working towards the enlightenment of the youth to create awareness among them about the current pressing problems facing society. They also focus on organizing various activities related to active involvement of the students in different spheres of college life.

    Celebrating the Youth Day on August 13, 2012, the department organized one day workshop on,' Making the Right Choices,' Mt. Rahul from Infosys talked about the various winning strategies.

    Keeping in view the growing problem of eve teasing which is rampant throughout the country, the department in collaboration with Chandigarh police organized a workshop on eve teasing. S. Naunihal Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police, Chandigarh interacted with the students and they were encouraged to dial 100 in o:rder to inform the police about any incident of eve teasing or harassment.Further, a Self-Defence Workshop was also organized by the department for the students to prepare them to face the hooligans who try to misbehave with the girls thinking them to be a weaker sex.

    On November 1, 2012 a Seminar on "Role of Police in Women Empowerent" was organized by the Student Welfare Society in collaboration with the Chandigarh Police. All the senior officers of the Police Department, Mr. Alok Kumar DIG, Mr. R.S Ghuman, SSP (Operations), S. Naunihal Singh, SSP and Mr.B.S Chadha, Deputy Superintendent of Police, encouraged the students to be proactive against the atrocities inflicted on women.

    Chandigarh Traffic police organized a workshop on 'Road Safety'. The students were educated on the importance of following traffic rules. Retd. Wing Commander Mr. C.S. Grewal highlighted the fact that HURRY is the major cause of road accidents.

  • Ehsaas, the Red Ribbon Club of the work tries to spread awareness of the deadly disease AIDS. New volunteers of the club were made about the working of the club on 31st July. 2013. The volunteers of the club pledged to stay away from drugs and have safe sex on 24th Aug.2013. Poster making competition on AIDS was 27th. Sept.2013. Harneet kaur of B.A3 won the first prize and Kriti and Shagun of B.A 1 won the second and third prizes. Students of the Red Ribbon club participated in the Inter college Competition on the theme of HIV/AIDS in various competitions on 28th October 2013 at GCG sec-11, Chandigarh. Harneet Kaur of B.A 3 and Gagan of B.A 2 won the second prize in Poster making competition. TAKE A STAND was the theme of the signature campaign, which was held on 4th October, 2013.Red ribbons were made by the volunteers and were sold to the staff and students. the raised funds were donated to CANCER SAHAYTA. Dr. Savneet Kaur,and Mrs. Jasneet Malhi, the co-ordinators of the club along with a few volunteers attended AIDSCON a two day conference at Govt. Medical hospital sec-32, Chandigarh on 14-15 Nov. 2013. Ehssas the Red Ribbon club along with an NGO "Vision Demonde" celebrated the Youth day on 8th. August 2012. This NGO , headed by Varun, a mechanical engineer along with other youth volunteers want to repay back to the society by spreading awareness of the dreadful disease AIDS. Ansh, one of the volunteers explained about AIDS through different games and activities. He also explained the difference between HIV and AIDS. On 17 th August. 2012 Volunteers of Red Ribbon Club participated in various competitions organised by State AIDS society , Chandigarh in Govt. College for girls sec-11 Chandigarh. Akanksha Bajaj of B.A ii won the first prize in Cartoon making. Asha and Sunita of B.A ii I won a consolation prize in Rangoli competition. Fun filled activities for Red Ribbon club were organised on 11th .Sept. 2012. The different activities were: Balloon blowing, Say no to drugs with Red bindis. Putting a red dot on a circle, Slogan writing and Extempore. The Winners of different competitions are: Pritma Singh of B.A ii Neelam, Prachi, Nikita.( 1) Parminder Of ii was declared the best speaker. Celebrating the World Aids Day, the club conducted a Quiz on AIDS Awareness on 30th Nov.2012. A poster making competition was also held in this regard. The winnerof the poster competition is: Anisha B.com1 Red Ribbon Express , a special train creating AIDS Awareness on the deadly disease came to platform number 3 of Chandigarh Railway Station on 14 th. Dec.2012. Volunteers of Red Ribbon Club and NSS visited the railway station to understand this disease in a better way. Celebrating the 75 years of Sikh Education Society, a blood donation camp was organised by the volunteers of Red Ribbon Club and NSS volunteers in collaboration with PGI on 29 th. Jan.2013. Around 60 units of blood was collected. Mrs.Bala, col.J.S Bala, Sr.Gurdev Singh, Dr. Charanjeet Kaur Sohi and Mr. H.S Sohi were all present here. Dr. Sunil Pangal from State AIDS Society, Chandigarh interacted and shared very important information about AIDS on8th Feb.2013.

  • National Service Scheme with a view to promote social consciousness and sense of responsibility, discipline and digni ty of labour, among students is very popular amongst the students. About 250 students of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women Sector- 26, Chandigarh were enrolled for NSS during the session 2013-14. Mrs. Ritu Dhanoa and Ms Amrita Kaur led the units with great perseverance and efficiency.

    Many activities were held during the course of the entire year. The volunteers were encouraged whole heartedly in all the activities. The activities dealt with the various topics like HIV, AIDS and Cancer Awareness, Cleanliness, Health, Hygiene, aforestation.

    A seven day-night special NSS camp was held in the college from 29.12.2013-04.01.2014 under the guidance of worthy college principal Dr.(Mrs.)Charanjeet Kaur Sohi. Around 102 NSS volunteers actively participated in the camp.The NSS volunteers were exhorted to work hard and do selfless community service.During the camp various workshops and interactive talks were held by the trained professionals such as workshops on Personality development & professionalism and Art & handmade craft,Group Dicussions on topics like Role of women in family and corporate and changing scenario of political system in India, General kwowledge Quiz, fun educational games,Self – defence training programme,motivational talks on Enhancement of happiness ,Aids awareness and sensitising NSS volunteers towards their responsibility for the visually impaired and underprivileged section of the society etc.The NSS volunteers visited adopted Balwadi,Babu Dham Colony,sector 26,Chandigarh where they interacted with the tiny-tots and caretakers and provided them self made teaching aids and distributed eatables.They also conducted the survey of balwadi and found many inadequacies, which they brought it to the notice of the councillor of that area. On their request the councillor has agreed that he would do the needful to improve the condition of Balwadi. The NSS volunteers have proposed that they would do follow up to ensure that the requisite facilities are available to the children.The concluding day of the camp was marked by cultural programme.

  • Upholding the NCC's mission to develop resourceful, responsible and resilient leaders and team players, our NCC unit managed with pride and dedication by teachers-incharge Meenu Sharma, Manpreet Kaur and Parminder Kaur strives hard to instill in the cadets the core values of NCC through weekly military related activities and team building games.


    The 20 students enrolled in the NCC Naval Wing, participated in various activities throughout the session and won many prizes for the college.Annual training camp was organized from August 7 to 16, 2012 at Panjab University, Chandigarh. 15 cadets from our college participated 1n this camp. Cadet Gurdeep Kaur won gold medal in the Shooting competition in 2nd year category while Cadet Shivani won a gold medal in the Musical Chair competition. College team won 2nd prize in the Dance competition.Two of our cadets participated in the Sailing Expedition camp held at Lathani from August 31,2012 to September 11,2012.Three cadets participated in the ATC Ezihanals held from December 22, 2012 to January 02, 2013.Pre Nau Sainik-I and Pre Nau Sainik-III camps were organized which were attended by two of our cadets.

    This session 60 cadets were enrolled in the Army wing.Throughout the year, various camps were organized by the NCC Army wing. Annual Training Camp was held during the autumn break at Home Science College, Sector 10, Chandigarh. 45 cadets participated in it. NIC camp was held at Rourkela, Orissa from May 30 to June 12, 2012. Cadets Sumiksha and Divya Gupta attended the camp. NIC II Ropar (Punjab) camp was organized by Army wing in the month of November, 2012. Our cadets Nidhi and Shilpa took part in it. Military Hospital Attachment Camp was held at Chandimandir from January 14 to 25, 2013, which was attended by our cadets Romila Negi, Monika Mahlawat and Ramandeep Kaur.

  • It is a matter of great pride and delight that our college surpassed all other institutions of City Beautiful and was awarded the Ist Prize in the category of the 'Best-Maintained Campus', in the competition held as part of the Rose Festival- 2013 celebrations. This was made possible due to the consistent efforts and keen supervision of Harpreet Kaur (Head, Department of Fine Arts), assisted by Dr.Aradhana, an ardent garden lover. The hard-work of our gardeners, Ram Baran and Ram Khilawan, in nurturing the garden bore fruit when we were adjudged the best. Our victory was made sweeter with additional prizes in "cut­ flowers” and "potted flowers" categories.Our college also participated in different categories of flowers at the Spring Fest organized by HUDA in Panchkula on March 7, 2013,andwon many prizes.Ever since Harpreet Kaur has taken over the charge of maintaining our college lawns, we have one of the most aesthetically landscaped campuses. Creation of beautiful composition of flowers in the rows of planted beds, impregnated with the fragrance and the splendor of colour, against the silhouette of trees and outlier hedges, the campus lawns strike the eye and provide a soothing ambience.
